Villarreal Club de Fútbol, often simply called Villarreal, is a Spanish football club from the town of Villarreal (or Vila-real in Valencian), in the region of Valencia. The club was founded in 1923, but it was not until the late 1990s that they really began to make a name for themselves in Spanish top-flight football. They play their home games at the Estadio de la Cerámica, a relatively small stadium but with an intimidating atmosphere.
Villarreal are known as “El Submarino Amarillo” – The Yellow Submarine – for their yellow shirts and their rise from the bottom in Spanish football. They do not have the huge budgets of Real or Barça, but they are a perfect example of good policy, smart scouting and steady sporting growth.
