U.S. Sassuolo Calcio, commonly known as Sassuolo, is a professional football club based in Sassuolo, a town in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. The club was founded in 1920 as Unione Sportiva Sassuolo and gradually grew through regional leagues.
Sassuolo reached Serie B for the first time in 2008 and earned promotion to Serie A in 2013, marking its debut in Italy’s top division. Since then, the club has established itself as a competitive mid-table Serie A team and is known for a progressive, attacking style of play.
The team’s colors are green and black, earning them the nickname “Neroverdi” (Black and Greens). Sassuolo is also recognized for its strong youth academy and focus on developing young talent, often giving opportunities to emerging players who later move to bigger clubs.
Sassuolo plays its home matches at the Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia, which has a capacity of about 21,000 spectators. The stadium is shared with Reggiana, another local club.
