RB Leipzig was founded in 2009, making it one of the youngest clubs in German professional football. The club was founded after energy drink manufacturer Red Bull took over the license of a fifth-division club, with the aim of reaching the Bundesliga within a few years. This succeeded faster than expected: in 2016, Leipzig was promoted to the top division and has played in the top every season since then. The club won the DFB-Pokal in 2022 and 2023 and has now also established itself at European level.
RB Leipzig’s home games are played in the Red Bull Arena, a stadium with space for over 47,000 spectators. The stadium is located in the centre of Leipzig and was originally built for the 2006 World Cup, at the time under the name Zentralstadion. Since the takeover by Red Bull, the stadium has been modernised and equipped with club colours and commercial elements that match the brand identity.
