Konyaspor is a football club based in Konya, founded in 1922. It is one of the oldest clubs in Turkey, though it spent most of its history outside the spotlight of the major Istanbul teams. The club gained more national recognition in the 2010s, especially after stabilizing in the Süper Lig and achieving consistent results. Their biggest success came in 2017 when they won the Turkish Cup, the first major trophy in their history, followed by the Turkish Super Cup the same year.

The team plays its home matches at Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium, opened in 2014 with a capacity of around 42,000. It is a modern stadium and one of the largest in Turkey, designed to reflect Seljuk architecture, a nod to Konya’s historical importance. Before moving there, Konyaspor played at Atatürk Stadium, which served as their home for decades.

Konya is Turkey’s largest city by area and one of its oldest urban centers, historically significant as the capital of the Seljuk Sultanate of Rum. Today it is known for its conservative culture and as the home of the Mevlana Museum, dedicated to Rumi. Football holds a strong place in local life, and Konyaspor represents the city’s pride on the national stage, with loyal fans known as “Nalçacılar.”
