Disney+ is a streaming service from The Walt Disney Company, launched on November 12, 2019. It offers a wide range of films, series, and other content from the iconic Disney franchise, as well as titles from other Disney companies such as Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.

Disney+ was developed in response to growing competition from streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. In the early 2010s, Disney decided to create its own platform to offer its vast library of films and TV series directly to consumers. The company officially announced the launch of Disney+ in 2018.

The decision to create a streaming service was partly due to Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2017, which gave them even more properties and content that could be integrated well into their own platform. This greatly expanded the offering and appeal of Disney+.
