İstanbul Başakşehir Futbol Kulübü, commonly known as Başakşehir, is a football club based in the Başakşehir district of Istanbul. The club was founded in 1990 as İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor and rebranded in 2014 to İstanbul Başakşehir FK. Unlike Istanbul’s traditional “Big Three” clubs, Başakşehir is a relatively new team that has rapidly grown in prominence due to strong investment and modern management. They won their first Süper Lig title in the 2019–20 season, marking a historic achievement for a non-traditional Istanbul club.
The team plays its home matches at Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium, which opened in 2014 and has a capacity of around 17,800. The stadium is modern and reflects the club’s focus on contemporary facilities, training infrastructure, and youth development programs.
Başakşehir is a newer district on the European side of Istanbul, characterized by planned urban development. The club represents this growing part of the city, attracting a fan base that is generally smaller but highly organized, and it stands out in Turkish football as a symbol of modern, professionally managed club structures.
