Manchester City Football Club was founded in 1880 as St. Mark’s (West Gorton) and changed its name to Manchester City in 1894. The club is based in the east of Manchester and has played at the Etihad Stadium since 2003, a modern stadium with over 53,000 seats.
Although City has won several cups and a league title in the past, its real success only began after its takeover by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008. Since then, the club has grown into a global powerhouse with multiple Premier League titles, domestic cups and, in 2023, the Champions League for the first time. Under manager Pep Guardiola, City has become known for its dominant, technical style of play and a team full of top players.
Manchester is an industrial and cultural city in the northwest of England, with a strong football identity. The city is home to two major clubs: Manchester City and rival Manchester United. City represent the eastern, often working-class part of the city, and have developed in recent years into the epitome of modern top-flight football, while maintaining a strong connection with their roots.
