Chelsea Football Club was founded in 1905 and is based in the Fulham district of West London. The club plays its home games at Stamford Bridge, a stadium with a capacity of over 40,000. Chelsea enjoyed mixed success in the first half of its existence, but grew into a top club after being taken over by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich in 2003. Since then, the club has won multiple Premier League titles, FA Cups and international awards, including two Champions League titles, in 2012 and 2021.
Chelsea is known for its blue and white club colours, international stars and often ambitious transfer policy. Under various top managers, the club has built a reputation as a modern powerhouse in European football.
London, and in particular West London, is the backdrop to Chelsea’s identity. As a cosmopolitan city, London offers a huge football scene with many rivalries, including those with Arsenal and Tottenham. Chelsea has a broad, international following but remains deeply rooted in the neighborhood where it all began.
