SC Freiburg was founded in 1904, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that it finally broke through in the Bundesliga. Under coach Volker Finke, the club developed a recognizable style of play and acquired a reputation as a well-organized, friendly club. Despite a limited budget, Freiburg regularly managed to nestle in the middle or even sub-top of the Bundesliga. The club is known for its strong youth development and sensible policy.

Until 2021, SC Freiburg played in the Schwarzwald-Stadion, a small but atmospheric stadium located on the edge of the Black Forest. Since then, the club has moved to the Europa-Park Stadium, a modern venue with a capacity of around 35,000 spectators. The new stadium offers more comfort and commercial opportunities, while retaining the characteristic fan involvement.

Freiburg is located in the southwest of Germany, close to the French and Swiss borders. The city is known for its historic city center, environmentally friendly policies and proximity to nature. It is a popular university city with a young and progressive character. SC Freiburg is deeply rooted in the local community and is seen as a proud symbol of the region.
