Lille OSC, often referred to simply as Lille, is a French football club founded in 1944 after a merger between Olympique Lillois and SC Fives. The club enjoyed success in the 1940s and 1950s, and has enjoyed a new period of prosperity in the 21st century. In 2011 and 2021, Lille won the French championship, with the 2021 title being particularly notable as they beat Paris Saint-Germain.
Lille’s home games are played at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, a modern stadium that opened in 2012. The stadium is located in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, just outside the city of Lille, and has a capacity of around 50,000 spectators. It has a retractable roof and is also used for concerts and other events.
The club is based in the city of Lille, a large city in northern France, close to the Belgian border. Lille is an important student city and commercial centre. The club has deep roots in the region and a loyal following, with fans from both France and the south of Belgium.
