Club Atlético de Madrid, or simply Atlético, is one of the largest football clubs in Spain, based in Madrid. The club was founded in 1903 and is known for its combative mentality, loyal fan base and robust playing style. They play their home games at the Estadio Cívitas Metropolitano, a modern stadium that opened in 2017.
Often seen as the underdog of Madrid, compared to the glamorous Real Madrid, Atlético has made a huge leap forward in the 21st century, especially under coach Diego Simeone, who has been at the helm since 2011. Under his leadership, the club has won multiple La Liga titles, UEFA Europa Leagues and UEFA Super Cups, and has also reached the Champions League final on several occasions.
