FC Groningen is a football club from the city of Groningen, founded in 1971 as a successor to GVAV. The club plays in the Euroborg, a modern stadium that is also called “The Green Hell”. The stadium offers space for around 22,500 supporters and is known for its fanatical atmosphere.
Groningen is a real people’s club, with a loyal fan base from the city and the entire province. The club played in the Eredivisie for many years, and in 2015 managed to win the KNVB Cup, which was the first major prize in the club’s history. With that, Groningen also qualified for European football.
The club is known for training talent. Well-known former players include Arjen Robben, Virgil van Dijk, and Luis Suárez, who all started their careers here or broke through via Groningen.
