Lidl is a German supermarket chain that operates throughout Europe. Like Aldi, Lidl is known for its low prices and efficient store concept. The company started in the 1930s, but only really started growing rapidly in the 1970s. There are now thousands of branches in dozens of countries.

Lidl combines low prices with a slightly more modern look than some other discounters. The stores are clearly laid out, with wide aisles, a mix of private labels and A-brands, and increasingly fresh products such as bread, vegetables and meat. Sustainability and quality have also played an increasingly important role at Lidl in recent years.

What also makes Lidl popular are the weekly offers. Every week there are new non-food promotions, from sportswear to tools and garden furniture. Customers often look forward to the brochure or the app to see what is on offer now.

Lidl tries to distinguish itself with a good price-quality ratio, modern stores and a rapidly changing assortment. You can do your daily shopping cheaply, but also suddenly come home with a camping table or an espresso machine.
