Wizz Air is a Hungarian low-cost airline that was founded in 2003 and operated its first flight in 2004. The company focuses mainly on cheap flights within Europe and to a number of destinations in the Middle East and North Africa.
Wizz Air is known for its no-nonsense approach: low ticket prices, no frills, and extras such as checked baggage, seat selection or food on board only for a fee. The company has a modern fleet with mainly aircraft from the Airbus A320 and A321 family, which are relatively economical and efficient.
Wizz Air’s main base is Budapest, but the company also has hubs in Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Italy, among others. They mainly focus on travelers who want to get from A to B cheaply — think city trippers, expats and migrant workers.
In recent years, Wizz Air has expanded considerably and also focused more on Western Europe, with flights from airports such as Eindhoven, Brussels-Charleroi and Dortmund. They compete strongly with other low-cost carriers such as Ryanair and easyJet.
Wizz Air promotes itself as a young, dynamic airline with low costs, fast growth and a focus on efficiency.
