Coop is a Dutch supermarket chain that is best known for its competitive prices and focus on local entrepreneurship. The stores are part of the larger supermarket organization Coop, but the “Super” variant is aimed at larger locations with a wider range and more services.

Coop stores are often found in urban areas or larger villages and are distinguished by their spacious layout, extra offers and emphasis on fresh products. Think of an extensive fruit and vegetable department, fresh bread, cold cuts and often also an in-store butcher or bakery.

The formula aims for a combination of price-conscious shopping with a pleasant shopping experience. Coop wants to compete with larger supermarket chains such as Albert Heijn and Jumbo, but with a slightly more “local” approach.

Although the name Coop is still used, Coop has merged with Plus since 2021. As a result, many Coop stores have now been converted into Plus supermarkets, or are planned to become so.
