Air India is the national airline of India and was founded in 1932 by J.R.D. Tata as Tata Airlines. It was renamed Air India in 1946 and later nationalized in 1953. The airline is known for its international and domestic flights and is headquartered in New Delhi.
Air India has been part of the Tata Group since 2022, after the Indian government re-privatized the airline. The airline operates a fleet of both wide-body and narrow-body aircraft, including Boeing and Airbus models.
The airline flies to over 100 destinations worldwide, with a strong presence in North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Air India is a member of the Star Alliance and offers extensive connectivity through codeshare agreements.
Despite its rich history, Air India has faced financial challenges and operational issues, but under Tata’s ownership, it is working to modernize, expand its fleet and improve customer service.
