ESPN+ is ESPN’s streaming service, launched in April 2018 as part of Disney’s broader strategy to reach sports fans directly through digital channels. While the traditional ESPN network focuses primarily on live broadcasts of major sporting events via cable and satellite, ESPN+ offers a complementary, digital experience with exclusive content that you don’t always find on regular channels.
The service started out relatively modestly, but quickly grew into an essential player in the American sports landscape. ESPN+ was given exclusive rights to various sports and competitions, such as UFC events, international soccer competitions (including the Bundesliga and La Liga), NHL, MLB, college sports and golf. The platform became an indispensable resource, especially for fans of niche or less frequently broadcast sports.
